Köktürk Yazıtları'ndan önce yazılan Ulu Han Ata Bitiği, Berlin Kraliyet Kütüphanesi'nde bulunan Kitab-ı Oğuzname-i Türki, Reşideddin Oğuznamesi, Cem Sultan'a sunulmak üzere Bayati tarafından yazılmış Cam-ı Cem-ayin adlı eserde yer alan Dede Korkut'la ilgili bölümler ve Oğuzname'nin Kazan nüshasında yer alan Dede Korkut'la ilgili üç bölüm ilk kez bu çalışmada bir araya getirilmiştir. Ayrıca tek yazma nüshası Topkapı Sarayı'nda bulunan Dede Korkut Kitabı'nın bir nüshası kabul edebileceğimiz bölüm ile Dresden ve Vatikan nüshalarındaki boylara da bu çalışmada yer verilmiştir. Bilim dünyasının yeni tanıdığı Türkistan/Türkmen Sahra nüshasında yer alan Salur Kazan'ın Yedi Başlı Ejderhayı Öldürmesi başlıklı bölüm, Yazıcıoğlu Ali ve Ali Şir Nevayi'nin Dede Korkut ile ilgili verdiği bilgiler, Dede Korkut Destanı'nın Kazakistan ve Türkmen varyantlarının bir bölümü yine bu çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Bütün bunlara ek olarak, Prof. Dr. Necati Demir'in Dede Korkut'la ilgili derlediği efsane ve hikayeler de, Dede Korkut'un bin yıllık serüveni daha iyi idrak edilebilsin diye çalışmaya eklenmiştir.
