RIKON Power Tools Wood Lathes Editorial Review
The RIKON Mini Lathe 70-105 is a great tool for small turning projects like pens and bowls. The machine comes with multiple pulleys on a belt for changing the speed; the speeds range from 500 to 3200. The lathe comes with an adjustable steady rest, and additional ones are available at Woodcraft. The headstock and tailstock have #2 taper, and the tool rest has a 5/8" shaft. A tapered live feed may work for ring turning, or one can be made from hardwood or strong plastic. Some customers had issues with the machine, including one who had problems with the headstock when changing the belt. However, Joe at tech support was helpful and solved the issue quickly. Another customer found that the motor didn't rotate and was unable to get help from customer service. A third customer found some minor damage to the lathe upon arrival but was able to fix it with a hammer, and they loved using the lathe. Overall, this lathe performs well for its intended purpose and provides excellent value for its price.
