Answer: Another option, between plane & sandpaper, would be to use a simple card scraper. Buy one for £5-ish or a set for £11-ish - makers inc. Clifton/Veritas/Bahco - or make one from an old disposable saw blade. Alternatively buy a cabinet scraper (e.g. Stanley/Record #80 for about £20), which looks like a big spokeshave but with a card scraper inserted instead of a blade. -

Answer: This item is powder coated & curved/bent at the front. -

I want to trim kitchen base unit plinths. Is this the right tool?
Answer: I'm unable to help you with this. I'm not an expert, just an enthusiastic DIYer. I used it to trim a shelf I made out of MDF and it did a good job.
Draper Smoothing Planes 45241 Editorial Review
The Draper 45241 Smoothing Plane is an aesthetically pleasing tool, but unfortunately, it is let down by its manufacturing and assembly. The lateral adjustment lever is off-center and misaligned, making it impossible to shift laterally in both directions. The frog also required excessive cleaning with a diamond bit to remove excess steel, and even after modification, it only barely worked to take off rough shavings. While the tote and knob are made of attractive hardwood, the finish is rough. However, for its low price, the plane is understandable given that it requires significant preparation before use.
