Hispanic Editorial Review
"Tender Is the Flesh" by Augustina Bazterrica is a novel that has been compared to "1984" due to its themes of government control and dehumanisation. The story follows a man through the process of butchering humans as a meat source, which some readers found to be redundant and dull if they were familiar with animal processing. However, others found the book to be thought-provoking and horrifying, with a stunning writing style and excellent symbolism. Some readers warned that the book can be difficult to stomach and may give nightmares. The ending is described as a gut-wrenching surprise, while a few readers felt it was rushed and forced. Overall, the book is recommended for readers with strong stomachs and an interest in dystopian literature.
